Student finance isn’t managed by UCAS so we can’t help with queries about it. Check the student finance page on our website for contact details for the organisations that can help you.
Your application is sent to your chosen unis at the same time, so it doesn’t matter which order you add your choices. They’ll be listed in alphabetical order in Apply, then we’ll generate a random order when we process your application.
Each uni considers your application against their own admissions criteria, so you’ll hear from them at different times: it also depends on where and when you apply and what you apply for. So don’t worry if people you know have heard from a uni and you haven’t.
Only accept an insurance choice if you really do want it as a back-up to your firm choice (which is your first choice). If you’re not sure it’s right for you, just have a firm choice – there are other options later in the year, like Clearing, if your firm choice can’t offer you the place.
Each uni has a long list of groups you can join, like political and religious societies, to social societies - one uni has a cheese and chocolate club… Joining a society is a great way to meet people with the same interests. Check the unis’ websites or speak to the student union.
If you’ve applied by 15 January we’ll have asked your choices to try and get back to you by 31 March but definitely no later than 10 May. If you’ve applied after the 15 January deadline the universities will have to get back to you no later than 19 July.
You don’t have to reply to offers until you’ve heard back from all of your choices. When this has happened a date by which you need to reply will be stated on Track. If you want to reply to offers without waiting to hear back from the rest of your choices then you need to cancel the remaining choices on Track first.
If you’ve applied through UCAS, used all five choices on your application and there’s been an unsuccessful outcome to them all, you might be able to apply through Extra for another course. In Extra, you can apply for any course with vacancies. Extra is open between the end of February and early July. In Extra, you apply for one course at a time using Track.
UCAS are unable to offer advice on scholarships. If you’d like to find out more about whether or not you’d be eligible to apply for a scholarship then you’d need to get in contact with your university choices or local British Council.
It’s possible to make an application after the 15 January deadline. You’d just need to contact your prospective choices before you apply to make sure that they’d consider it.
You can add more choices to your application if you haven’t already used all five. However, you should contact your prospective choices before doing so to check that they’ll consider the application as we’ve now passed the 15 January deadline.
Many qualifications don’t appear on the Tariff (especially outside the UK) that will be considered by universities. If you’re worried about this, check the full entry requirements on the Course Search or contact the uni.
